John Seazholtz '59 Earns NJIT’s Highest Honor

When John Seazholtz '59 takes up a task, he dedicates himself to it completely. His longstanding commitment to the university as an NJIT alumnus, benefactor and board member, as well as an outstanding professional career, was recently recognized when he was awarded NJIT’s highest honor: the Edward F. Weston Medal for Distinguished Professional Achievement by an alumnus. A good example is his involvement with the Robert and Dot Swanson Athletics Endowed Scholarship Fund. A former soccer player, he not only agreed to head up the appeal to honor his former coach and friend, he wrote to all of his
classmates who attended NCE during the '50s. And he pledged the lead gift of $50,000 to the fund. Mr. Seazholtz spearheaded the same initiative for the Estrin Endowed Scholarship fund and supported the fund with a leadership gift as well.

Over the years, Seazholtz has demonstrated a similar commitment to the university - he has served for more than a decade on the Board of Overseers, chairing its marketing and communications committee, and is currently a member of the Athletics Campaign Steering Committee. He has also participated in recruitment events in Virginia and Maryland. In addition, his wife Leona '62 and he have been generous benefactors, with 32 gifts to the university over 24 years, including gifts to honor President Emeritus Saul K. Fenster and former athletics director Mal Simon.

One of the most highly respected telecommunications executives in the world, Seazholtz retired as chief technology officer of Bell Atlantic Corporation after a career of 36 years with Bell. He is currently chairman of the board of both Westell Technologies and of eWay group, a private consulting firm.
