Press and dye of the Fraternity's original corporate seal.
The pictures on this page show the press and dye used to imprint the Fraternity's official corporate seal, which appears on the Fraternity's early charters. The press itself is damaged and can no longer be used.
The dye that was used is reversed to allow for the imprint to read normally. You will notice that it cites the Fraternity being founded in 1901. For a short period, the Fraternity considered its founding to have occurred in April 1901, when the first convention was held and the first constitution adopted. Later recognizing the higher importance of the 1898 date, Founder's Day was established as October 6 and the corporate seal was recast to reflect this change.
You can see the foil stamp on the photo from the Alpha Chapter charter, currently on display at the National Headquarters. Does the signature in the upper right hand corner look familiar? It should — it is Ossian E. Mills, Founder of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
