Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Launches Sinfonia Circle online network

With the increasing demand for more and better online communication tools, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia launched Sinfonia Circle in April 2007. Sinfonia Circle allows an easy way for alumni to reconnect and stay connected with people they have lost touch with over the years. It also allows alumni to leverage their network of connections to find jobs, housing, business associates and other Sinfonians with similar interests. Powered by Affinity Engines, Sinfonia Circle provides an exclusive, dynamic, secure and user-friendly online community, driven by alumni users themselves.

"Sinfonia Circle brings the modern phenomenon of online social networking to Phi Mu Alpha," explained Executive Director Ryan Ripperton. "Whether he's 18 or 80, I think every brother will find Sinfonia Circle to be a useful, fun, valuable service for Sinfonians. Best of all, Sinfonia Circle is a closed network, so only Sinfonians are able to join and connect."

The unique design of Sinfonia Circle allows alumni to "build their network" by searching for and inviting fellow alumni to join. The network grows quickly by friends inviting friends to partake in
the virtual community. Commonly known as peer-to-peer or social networking, this provides a visual mapping of who you know, and who they know.

"Sinfonia Circle is a great way to reconnect with old friends and to connect with new ones. I am finding that it is an invaluable tool for the recruitment, especially of younger, newer Sinfonians, to our alumni association." said Benjamin Whelan-Morin, Zeta Omega (Hartford) '02, president of the Washington D.C. Area Alumni Association.

"The best thing is that only brothers are able to start an account so there's no worries about non-Sinfonians getting information about ourselves that we normally wouldn't post on other social networks like MySpace or Facebook," added Tyler Tallent, Theta Omicron (Tennessee) '00. "Sinfonia Circle has even helped me get in contact with one of our founding chapter members from 1959!"

Customized groups allow alumni to join groups based on regional areas, initiating chapters or common interests. The wide spectrum of groups that have formed cover everything from high school band directors to fans of the Atlanta Braves. Forums offer a place to ask and offer advice, make general announcements, or post a job exclusively to fellow alumni. Other features include messaging, blogging, unlimited photo sharing and much more, all generated dynamically to create an experience unique to each individual alumnus.

"This is a fantastic way for our chapters to communicate upcoming events and general news to our alumni," Dan Krueger, director of alumni engagement, commented. "It allows all information to be centrally located and it can be sent to each chapter alumnus for free."

Al Jacobs, Gamma Omega (Indiana State) '92, stated, "There's no better way for me to stay up to date with my chapter and the Fraternity than to subscribe to Sinfonia Circle and it's message boards to stay as current and active as possible in the events shaping the future of the Fraternity."
