Foundation receives first Music Makers' Circle gift.

Jeff Spoeri, Nu Sigma (William & Mary) '84, was featured in the premier issue of Resonance as being a contestant on the television trivia show "Jeopardy!" Spoeri created quite the stir after stating, "I hereby publicly pledge, as president of the Sinfonia Educational Foundation, that I will donate 10% of any after-tax winnings to the Foundation."

Hundreds of Brothers tuned in as Spoeri debuted on the hit game show. Although perchance by luck at times, his skill certainly pulled him through the first several rounds with ease. "It really was all in the timing," Spoeri said. "The contestants generally know the material, but if you get the timing down on the buzzer, you can get into a rhythm." Appropriately, Spoeri did well in several musical categories, and he was able to mention Sinfonia on the air in his final appearance November 27.

Pulling in around $31,500 in his first two episodes, things were looking great for both Jeff and the Foundation. "I was very pleased," stated Matthew Garber, Director of Development, "not only for Jeff, but for the Foundation as well. This type of lead gift can seriously help us further fulfill our mission of enriching lives and advancing music."

After five episodes and over $100,000 in winnings, Spoeri is proud to be the first member of the new Music Makers’ Circle. His post-tax winnings have allowed him to make an impact on the SEF’s appeal year with a gift above Music Makers’ Circle level of $5,000.

"I’m honored to be the first member of the Music Makers’ Circle and look forward to playing again for the SEF on Jeopardy!’s Tournament of Champions in the spring," Spoeri added. "As president of the SEF, I think
Spoeri has served as President of the since 2004
it’s important for all Sinfonians to take part in the great things we are doing. Whether you can give $5 or $5,000, your gift truly makes a difference."
