New Colonies at Southern Cal and Arizona

Sigma Alpha Mu’s expansion initiatives are off to a fast start this fall with new colonies at the University of Southern California (Mu Theta) and University of Arizona (Beta Gamma).

The reactivation of the University of Southern California chapter has been a high priority for the Octagon the past several years and, after outstanding support from alumni and work by the Expansion Committee and professional staff, Mu Theta is on the way back. Led by Assistant Executive Director, Matt Witenstein, the expansion team conducted an on-campus recruitment program and colonized on September 10. The new group is well supported by alumni led by Chapter Advisor Brian Newman and the colony has already made strong connections with Hillel and Chabad.

After a brief absence, Sigma Alpha Mu again has a presence on the University of Arizona campus. The reactivation team led by Expansion Consultant Josh Rothstein was in Tucson in the heat of late August organizing a strong core group of men to repopulate Beta Gamma chapter. The group is actively supported by area alumni and has set a goal of thirty men by December 2007.

Efforts are also under way to reactivate our historic Mu Gamma chapter at Case Western Reserve; several students are already working with the expansion team and we hope to recolonize soon. Cleveland area alumni are actively supporting the Mu Gamma reactivation.

In addition to returning to USC, U. of Arizona and Case Western, the Fraternity is laying the foundation for a new chapter at the University of Rhode Island. An alumni advisory board has been organized and potential charter members are being interviewed. ΣΑΜ was invited to campus with the support of the University administration, IFC, and Hillel.
