Alcohol Education Program for Candidates

Sigma Alpha Mu now requires all candidates to complete an online alcohol education program upon joining the Fraternity. This decision reflects Sigma Alpha Mu’s commitment to the health and welfare of its students.

The AlcoholEdu program is an interactive, online educational course provided by Outside the Classroom. The goal of the program is to ensure that members have a positive experience in Sigma Alpha Mu as well as within their larger college environment. Thus, we are educating our members about alcohol – how it affects the mind and body, and how it can impact their college career.

Our members who participated in this course last year reported strong knowledge gained about Blood Alcohol Content (BAC). Data gathered thirty days after they completed the first part of the course show positive changes in their behavior, as they began to act more protectively. Members also reported an increase in their expressions of social concern.

Sigma Alpha Mu will continue to provide this program to candidates of the Fraternity at no cost, thanks to a grant from the Sigma Alpha Mu Foundation. Students learn life lessons as part of their college experience with Sigma Alpha Mu; responsible management of alcohol is one.
